Abstract

Patriarchy itself is often interpreted as a custom of inheritance of the line of descent from the father. Where this patriarchy is never separated from its association with the patrilineal, with the characteristic of the male or father as the holder of power in the family and in some customs apply the inheritance of the last name. The focus of this study aims to analyze the meaning of representation and examine the messages that represent women in the film “YUNI” through scenes or scenes. In this study, researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods, with the type of semiotic analysis research Roland Barthes model. Using the paradigm of Constructivism, this study describes the representation of women in patriarchal culture contained in the film”YUNI". Where that the result of the construction of reality created in the form of symbols and signs by individual makers who are connotations and denotations. The results of the study showed that the Representation of women in patriarchal culture in the film “YUNI” by kamila Andini illustrates that women are often considered to be minorities who are considered weak resulting in restrictions in motion on women as well as women who do not need higher education,women are seen as unable to become leaders because of the complex, women are always synonymous with the kitchen world, women must marry after entering adulthood, women as objects of male sexuality. But Yuni's role in this film also gives several other representations, namely representing self-liberation amid the problems of patriarchal structures and cultures that are rooted in society. So that in an effort to fight the shackles of patriarchy, women have the same right to obtain higher education, women can also make decisions and become leaders, violence committed by men against women cannot be resolved amicably because it has violated existing laws in Indonesia.
