Abstract

Nowadays the using of portable devices to recognize the moduli for base layer strength is very well known. Devices such as Lightweight Deflectometer (LWD) and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) are able to estimate the base layer elasticity modulus quickly with their simple design and procedure. This study is about evaluating the modulus of base layers by DCP and LWD, where the results from these equipments are compared and correlated to get the value of moduli in the field (in-situ estimation). The tests are taken at the Tscheikuna Road in Rajamangala University of Thanyaburi Thailand (RMUTT) area. Existing previous researches and studies are provided to support the test performed in this study. The modulus values have the nearly same results from different equipments. Some of the correlations of the modulus from those devices show more than 90% similarity of results in 5 out of 10 test points. This concludes that both the DCP and LWD equipments could be used to estimate the moduli values of the soil base layer in more than 1000 mm deep below the surface.
